Purchased for $8 at a used book store, I bought this on a lark, something I rarely do. Usually I try to buy serious and well known authors and don’t often take chances. Reading is serious business! The short synopsis, two elephants escape from the London Zoo and join a jazz band had my curiosity piqued.
I enjoyed the beginning of the book the most as it was full of possibilities. What will our elephants get up to? The story initially divides into two parts, the elephant plot and the Henri plot with then intermingle. I did find the Henri plot with the bell ringers to be a bore. I found the Sedge plot that develops near the end of the story, highlighting the foolishness of bureaucracy to be the most entertaining.
I planned to give this book to a friend that greatly enjoys jazz, but there isn’t much about jazz here. Just a modern fairy-tale about two talking elephants. It’ll probably end up in a little free library.
